Drama Club
Many moons ago when I was in elementary school, one of the extracurricular activities that I was involved in was my school’s Drama Club. I was a Stage Manager during the 3 years that I participated (and the first 6th grader to be a stage manager, might I add!).
Fast forward quite a few years, and I am still involved with the Drama Club. My mother is now an English teacher at my former elementary school, and the Art Director for the Drama Club as well!
Each year, I create a custom logo for the school’s play, which is put onto the tickets, t-shirts, and a few concession stand items. I have been creating them since I was in college, and it has turned into a bit of a tradition to paint that year’s logo onto the school auditorium’s wall.
I also create the playbill for the play, and design custom advertisements in it that feature messages for the students from their loved ones. Many of them will write in their message and ask me to make it into something special for them.
I love being able to see some of my former teachers, and I am thrilled to be able to help such a talented group of students and parents turn an ordinary auditorium into a real theatrical setting for their performances. It’s also a great opportunity for me to get creative and to spend some quality time with my mom.
The Show Must
Go Online
This year, the Drama Club was unfortunately unable to put on their 2020 performance of Mary Poppins due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Instead, the Drama Club recorded scenes of an online performance entitled The Show Must Go Online, and I was able to edit and produce the video for them.
